WGU Nursing

WGU, a fully accredited online university operating in all 50 U.S. states, plans to train over 700 new registered nurses in the region by 2027. Previously, WGU operated from three rented labs across the state, but this new dedicated facility (Nursing simulator and learning center) will enhance student training significantly.

Indiana Nursing Shortage

Lisa Wagner, WGU’s State Nursing Director, emphasized its value for Indiana nursing students. The demand is urgent, as Indiana alone is projected to need 5,000 more nurses by 2031, according to the Indiana Hospital Association.

WGU Nursing Scholarships

WGU also supports future nurses through various scholarships

One notable example is Sarah Hughes, a peritoneal dialysis nurse from Goldsboro, who was awarded a Tier 1 Heartbeat of Healthcare RN-to-BSN Scholarship. Her award covers one full year of tuition, valued at $11,050.

The scholarship is offered in two tiers:

  • Tier 1 covers 100% tuition for up to two six-month terms.
  • Tier 2 provides $2,500 in tuition support over the same period.

These scholarships help ease financial burdens and make it easier for nurses to advance their careers through flexible online education.
